# Create an agent key

Create a private agent key with the minimum access that your application needs.

An agent key is a secret credential for direct Beacon automation. Each key belongs to one user and workspace.

Agent keys for direct automation require a Growth, Team, or Business plan. Hosted MCP connections are available on every active plan, including Free.

## Create the key

1. Open **Settings** in Beacon.
2. Select **Developer**.
3. Find **Direct automation**.
4. Enter a **Key name**.
5. Select only the required permissions.
6. Select **Create agent key**.
7. Copy the key from **Copy this agent key now**.

Beacon shows the complete key one time. Store it in a secret manager.

## Choose permissions

Available controls are:

- **Read channels**
- **Read schedule**
- **Read Media library**
- **Read posts**
- **Create posts**
- **Generate with AI**

Create separate keys for separate services. Revoke a key when you no longer need it.
