# MCP tools

Find the current Beacon tools and choose the correct tool for each task.

Beacon provides 13 visible tools and three on-demand tools.

## Find a tool

| Tool                   | Purpose                                           |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| `beacon_search_tools`  | Search the complete tool catalog.                 |
| `beacon_get_tool_help` | Read the contract for one exact tool.             |
| `beacon_call_tool`     | Call a catalog tool, including an on-demand tool. |

Search and help do not bypass the selected tool permission or approval.

## Read Beacon data

| Tool                           | Purpose                                             |
| ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------- |
| `beacon_list_channels`         | List channel details and publication readiness.     |
| `beacon_get_provider_contract` | Read required fields, text limits, and media rules. |
| `beacon_check_post`            | Check a complete post plan without creating it.     |
| `beacon_list_schedule`         | List posts in an explicit time range.               |
| `beacon_get_post`              | Read one post and its channel destinations.         |
| `beacon_list_media`            | List ready media in the selected workspace.         |
| `beacon_get_media`             | Read media details and inspect an image.            |

Run `beacon_check_post` before `beacon_create_post`. Fix every reported error before creation.

## Create with Beacon

| Tool                          | Purpose                                                          |
| ----------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `beacon_generate_post_drafts` | Generate editable post copy with AI credits.                     |
| `beacon_generate_post_image`  | Generate and save one image with AI credits.                     |
| `beacon_create_post`          | Save a draft, schedule a post, or request immediate publication. |

Each create tool requires confirmation. Immediate publication also requires a separate Beacon approval.

## On-demand tools

| Tool                             | Purpose                                           |
| -------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| `beacon_get_workspace_identity`  | Read the selected workspace and effective access. |
| `beacon_get_media_upload_link`   | Open Beacon so the user can upload a local file.  |
| `beacon_list_provider_contracts` | Read all enabled provider contracts.              |

Find an on-demand tool with `beacon_search_tools`. Then call it through `beacon_call_tool`.
